
An elephant was shot dead in village Seunebok Bayu (SP - KM 1) Indra Makmur district of East Aceh Regency. Friday (15 / 7) until Monday (18 / 7) rotting elephant carcasses still lying in the woods in Tgk Subi Durian plantation emanating pungent smell.
Local residents heard the sound of gunfire around 10:00 pm Friday (15 / 7) around the crime scene. Moreover, a pack of three elephant was sighted patrolling the area following the death of one elephant. Communities request MUSPIKA to bury the carcasses due to its possible health hazard, there's also common concern that rain will cause contaminated water to flow into the river, which were used as primary source of water.
According to Ibn (local residents), after the information about the death of the elephant circulated, many people visit the scene to witness firsthand the remaining of elephant carcass.
S. Indra Makmur police chief in his office early on Monday (18 / 7) stated that after receiving reports from the public, he immediately commissioned police personnel together with Koramil to the site for follow-up report, arriving at the scene around about 12:00 pm, Team managed to arrest three suspect and secure a pair of ivory. Elephant shot with a firearm. Suspects and evidence then surrendered to East Aceh Police
