The district of Aceh Tamiang has multiple Palm Oil plantations and these plantation are in breach of multiple laws. A number of these plantations have admitted their illegalities and have surrended their plantation area back to the Acehnese government for rehabilitation.

While in other parts of Indonesia, natural forests are being cleared and turned into palm oil plantations, as we speak, communities in Aceh Tamiang  are putting up resistance and it is the Palm Oil plantations that are being cut down, and natural forest restored.

In September 14, 2011 another one of the plantation owner has admitted their guilt and surrended their plantation area to avoid legal problems.
