BPKEL Rebuild Ketambe Research Station

Research Shelter

Following massive fire that burned down Ketambe Research Station on July 2011, BPKEL have begun the restoration process of shelter as an effort to maintain the support for research and sustainable use of Leuser Ecosystem.

At the moment, BPKEL have re-built two temporary shelter. The fire consume six houses that was initially used to accommodate researcher and guest. Researcher have begun to return to return to Ketambe and right now there is one researcher from Bogor currently investigating Orangutan.

Ketambe research station is one of the oldest research station in Aceh. It was built in 1971 by Herman D. Rijksen. This research station located in one of the biodiversity rich area of Leuser Ecosystem and has historically accommodate almost research in Leuser Ecosystem due to its proximity to major wildlife habitat.
