Act No 11, 2006, Concerning Governance of Aceh.

This act with is a direct outcome of the Helsinki Peace Accord gives the Aceh Government full control over its forest estate, with the exception of

National Parks ( of which there are none in Aceh,yet).

Clause 150 of Act No 11 States :

The Government (of Indonesia) gives to the Aceh Government the duty of managing the Leuser Ecosystem within Aceh. to be carried out through protection, supervision, preservation, rehabilitation of the area’s functions, and sustainable conservation-based utilization

This act outlines the National Spatial plans and spatial planning policy.

This Government Regulation declares the Leuser Ecosystem to be Strategic Area - an area that of national importance, especially for economic and environmental reasons. In the case of the Leuser Ecosystem the area must be “protected and conserved, its functions optimized to restore the balance of the ecosystem, its biodiversity conserved, its natural uniqueness maintained, and its status as national inheritance sustained” . PP No 26, 2008 is valid for twenty years.
